A Praetorian History

The Praetorian Network began in 1996 and was the first domain I registered as praetorian.net. The original function for the domain was an online gaming group that played the Star Wars Classic: TIE Fighter. Our squadron, Praetorian Squadron, were the best of the best: the best gamers, best webmasters, best game programmers. The group became splintered in short order with no clear direction and I made the adjustment to retooling praetorian.net to a multi-function domain. It soon became a haven for a variety of projects, including The Imperial Order, a global gaming, programming, and web design organization. The domain also served as the foundation for my first company, Praetorian Communications, whose main focus was website builder, hosting, and design, with additional Personal Computer support.

As the Internet of the 1990s evolved, so too did praetorian.net, it evolved into a web portal that was built to rival similar web portals of the day. It served up immediate news, sports, weather, and financial data to visitors, along with providing secure e-mail, search engine functionality, and much more. Unfortunately, instead of growing with the Internet, the domain was hijacked due to incompetence on the part of Network Solutions and the domain was re-registered overseas and despite legal efforts, never returned.

With the advent of new top level domain names, I embarked to re-create and re-envision the Praetorian Network with praetorian.network. The circle was now complete. The next step was to actually do something with it, and here we are.
